Being Creative with Media

Wednesday, May 10 | 12pm - 1pm

In this workshop, we will explore how to incorporate multimedia objects (beyond text and images) to create a rich and more engaging learning experience for your students. This includes video (screen capture, video recording, animation, 3rd party videos), 360 images/videos, h5p, audio (podcasts), virtual bulletin boards, mind mapping, amongst others. We will provide examples for each one of these cases and show you what technologies and services are available at UBC for their production.

Tech in Transit – H5P: Helpful & Playful Windows to Learning

Technology in Transit is a monthly event organized by the Learning Design & Digital Innovation (LDDI) unit to showcase various learning technologies to students in the Faculty of Education. The purpose of this one-hour session is to raise awareness of different technologies and to show how to incorporate them into classrooms.

In this session, we will explore H5P (HTML5 Package) --- a free and open-source platform for creating, sharing, and reusing interactive content. Easy-to-use yet exceptionally versatile, H5P empowers educators to transform passive content into dynamic learning experiences that foster student comprehension and engagement. Take a peek through these windows to learning!

TLEF Consultations

LDDI helps faculty with their applications for Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) projects, including cross-faculty collaborations. We provide consultation regarding:

  • Pedagogy: course and program design, assessment of learning, active learning, evidence based teaching practices;
  • Evaluation: Develop a project evaluation plan, identify the best method(s) to collect evidence, collect and analyze data to determine your project’s impact(s);
  • Learning Technology: Learning technology integration, development, learning analytics
  • Media: media design and development, graphic design: DIY, emerging media;
  • Project: Project planning and budget development for TLEF projects;

We invite you to join us to explore Hypothesis, a social annotation tool that is fully integrated with Canvas. It allows students to annotate PDFs and websites, share comments and reply to peer's comments. The interactivity can help readings become more active and social. This tool is currently being evaluated (pilot) for official usage at UBC. Join our team of learning technologists and designers who will show you how the tool works and its unique affordances.

Join the LDDI team for an afternoon of games, lunch and frivolity as we launch our monthly staff and faculty games club. Bring your own games, or join one of ours, and connect with some fabulous folks over some friendly competition outside Scarfe.

  • Overview of UBC Learning Technology Ecosystem
  • Intro to the Canvas LMS
  • Using technology tools in class
