Technology in Transit

Date: January 14, 2014
Location: Scarfe foyer, 12pm-1pm

Technology in Transit is a student-led lunchtime presentation showcasing cool and innovative educational applications of technology. This month’s Technology in Transit will feature Baoying Fu and her presentation on how blogs can be used in educational environments to enhance the learning/teaching experience for teachers, students, and parents.

Blogging allows teachers to organize teaching thoughts and reflect on each lesson being taught. If the blog is only open to oneself (or other teachers), the teacher may also record notes on classroom management and assessment of classroom activities and assignments. If the blog is also open to students and parents, students may review what they have learned during the day and interact with each other in the comments, and for parents, they could have an idea of what has been taught in school and track progress of the learning, which helps to initiate conversations with their children at the same time. There are other forms of blogging such as students’ blogging, in which students can put up their ideas and reflect on their learning online. Teachers could assess how well the students understand the concepts being taught and therefore make better plans for the following lessons.
