Description
UBC PointQuest is a project designed to enrich the experience of UBC students, employees, and visitors to UBC’s Point Grey campus. It features an interactive map that allows users to explore different locations across campus to learn unknown and interesting facts. Content is presented in a variety of ways, including videos, images, animations, narratives, and 3D models. Additionally, users can interact with the map to get directions to physically visit the locations. The interface also allows users to add their own points across the map and to add comments, making UBC PointQuest a collaborative storytelling venture.
Goals
UBC PointQuest project is rooted in place-based and experiential learning pedagogies. It draws from Indigenous pedagogical approaches where learning happens through engagement, interaction, understanding, and relationship-building with and through the land, integrating the rhythms of nature into education. The goal of the project is to enable faculty members and students at UBC (and the wider community) to create a record of their own reflective and relational learning in-situ, regardless of the discipline. Participants and users are encouraged to engage directly with their environment, relying on lived experiences and hands-on involvement, connecting with their surroundings, and fostering a deeper relation to the land and the community.
